New York City is poised to become the latest American city to offer a glass water bottle startup.
Glass Water Bottle (GWWB) announced Wednesday it will go public.GWWBs are a category of glass water bottles that combine glass and water to make a beverage.
Glass water bottles typically cost between $100 and $500.GWB, which is based in New Jersey, has raised about $10 million to date and expects to raise another $20 million to $30 million in private funding.
The company says it has over 200 employees and has plans to expand to other countries.GWS has a long history in water bottle manufacturing and had been manufacturing water bottles since the mid-1990s.
But it has struggled to keep up with demand for its product, said Chris Gorman, a GWS spokesman.
Glass water bottles are currently sold in a handful of U.S. cities.
New York’s plan could make it easier for companies like GWWB to scale up.GWC, which was founded by a group of engineers, is developing the technology to make water bottles more efficient, but it’s unclear if the company can sell its product in New Yorkers.
Glass Water Bottle will go on sale later this year in New Orleans.
